Barefoot Wine/Championship Volleyball ProAM Cup Approaches

It's been a great summer on the beach! We've been busy cleaning up the coasts, enjoying time with friends and of course, getting barefoot on the beach volleyball court! The Barefoot Wine/Championship Volleyball ProAm series, a summer-long tournament around the US where the best up-and-comers in Beach Volleyball compete head to head, is wrapping up and we'd like to give a big barefoot thanks to all the competitors! These players competed in over 12 markets, with some of the best talent in the country showin' their stuff out on the court.
We'd also like to give a high five to each market's winners, who are heading to Miami! These fine ladies and gents will compete against Olympic gold medalists Todd Rogers & Kerri Walsh in the the Barefoot Wine/CV ProAm Cup! Best of luck in September and congratulations!

Barefoot Winery: getting 'Butts' off the beach!
This summer, we are on a journey. The 2011 Beach Rescue Project is all about cleaning up beaches from coast to coast, and amidst all the awesome cleanups we came across a very special and impactful story.
On July 23rd, our Barefooters set out to make Wrightsville Beach barefoot friendly. With 30 volunteers, armed with burlap sacks (in 90 degree weather!) we cleaned the beach. And by the end of the day, we picked up our fair share of straws, plastic wrappers & bottles….but mostly cigarette butts.
And as it turns out, we aren't the first to discover the issue in Wrightsville, North Carolina. One of our awesome volunteers, Danielle Richardet, is a local celebrity who is devoted to keepin' butts of the beach' and has created a blog documenting her journey, called it starts with me.
Danielle has completed 81 twenty minute beach cleanups and has managed to collect 24,558 cigarette butts from the same stretch of beach! Check out this photo of the butts she has collected to far

Danielle is a TOEtally awesome example of how much just one person can do to help keep our world's coasts clean! And the best part? There are many others out there committed to doing the same in their neck of the world. Join us on September 20th for the premiere of One Beach, a film about creativity, optimism and fun at work on our coasts around the world. The short film series will focus on inspiring people like the the Surfrider Foundation and four other incredible individuals using creativity and fun to change the world.
2011 Beach Rescue Project Continues

August is here but summer sure as heck isn't over! We're in our fifth year of Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project and this year has been bigger and better than ever! Since June, we've been making beaches more Barefoot friendly in California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, New York and just about everywhere in between! By the end of the summer, we will have completed more than 20 cleanups, keeping our rivers, lakes & beaches tidy, for everyone to enjoy!
Along the way, we have made loads of new friends, picked up a whole lotta trash & even had the chance to enjoy some awesome tunes from our 2011 Beach Rescue Project musician, Brett Dennen during a handful of post-cleanup celebrations! And on top of all that, we're making a film, One Beach about creativity, optimisim & fun at work around the world, keeping our beaches barefoot friendly. If you haven't already, take a peek at the film trailer below & join us on September 20th for the Facebook Film Premiere.
There are still a handful of beach cleanups happening through the end of August, and you are TOEtally invited!
